Ritaj Jaha a 9-year-old girl living in Gaza with her family. One day, the terrifying sound of planes and rockets filled the air and the war suddenly erupted. No one expected it to happen at that moment. Explosions shook the area and the walls of Ritaj’s home collapsed, causing debris to fall on everything. Ritaj was in her room with her siblings when, at that moment, part of the roof of the house collapsed, and the debris buried her family.
Ritaj was trapped under the rubble and couldn’t move. The sound of screaming filled the air, and she desperately tried to call out to her mother and father, but no sound came out. After many hours rescue teams were able to reach her. She was in a semi-conscious state, her body covered in wounds, and she had lost her left leg due to the collapse of the wall that had fallen on her.
When she was pulled from under the debris, Ritaj discovered that her life had changed forever. She was in a state of shock, her eyes filled with sorrow. She had lost everything—her entire family—her mother, father, and siblings. 89 members of her family had lost their lives in that brutal war.
As time passed, Ritaj began to recover gradually and started relying on crutches to move.
