In the heart of Gaza, where destruction and bombing never cease, lived a young boy named Zuheir, an innocent child just 3 years old. One day, unlike any other, Zuheir lost his father in one of the airstrikes that targeted their neighbourhood. His father used to always hold him tight and reassure him whenever they heard the sound of airplanes, telling him everything would be alright. But that night, his father never came back to hold him again.
Zuheir woke up to find their home in ruins, his mother crying her heart out, and his father gone forever. He didn't understand what had happened, but he felt the great emptiness in his little heart. All he knew was that his father would no longer be there to play with him or take him on walks around the neighbourhood as he used to.
Overnight, Zuheir became an orphan, living with his mother who now struggled to make ends meet. Sometimes, Zuheir would ask his mother, "Where's daddy? Why isn't he coming back?" She would only respond with tears, trying to hide her grief so her little boy wouldn't feel it.
One day, while Zuheir was playing near the remains of their destroyed home, a volunteer from a charity organization approached him. The volunteer had heard about Zuheir's story and decided to help him. Zuheir was enrolled in a support program for orphans, where he received psychological care and some gifts that tried to ease his pain.
But the pain in Zuheir's heart was too deep to be forgotten with a few gifts. All this little boy wanted was for his father to return, but life in Gaza is harsh, and the war leaves no room for such returns.
Zuheir has now become a symbol of many children who have lost their parents in this conflict. His story reminds every one of the horrors of war and its impact on innocent children who are guilty of nothing but being born in places that know no peace.
Zuheir is growing up now, surrounded by community support, but he will always remember his father, who couldn’t continue the journey of life with him. His story is not just one story but the story of thousands of children in Gaza who lost their loved ones due to war.
